4000 Islands

                                      

If I ever would like to live on an island, then on this one :-D
The 4000 Island are obviously 4000 bigger and smaller islands inside the Mekong river, in the south of Laos. It's right next to the border of Cambodia. We had our own Bungalow with hammock on the front door. It was a dreamlike paradise. Like you can see on the first three pictures, this is the village on the island. Our Islands name is Don Det. It's the one with the most Hotels and Restaurants on it, but it's still lovely quiet and not much is going on. Picture 3 shows the main road through the village ;-)
On our second day here we took the Taxi (Bike with self made side-car) and drove down to the other Island Don Khon to see the dolphins. I was very excited, but our driver Thin wasn't :-D It was a very very hot day. So the Dolphins dived very deep down in the cooler water and just came up to get some air. Picture number 6 is what we actually saw. Picture 7 is just for you, so you know how a Mekong Dolphin looks like. These poor animals are nearly extinct. But Laos and Cambodia are working hard together to prevent that. I was sooo happy we could see some of them! As we wanted to go back, the motor of our boat breaked down. Shit... We are in the middle of the river, no engine, no working phone and almost no water. Well... Michael tried to fix the motor, the driver began to paddle and I was swinging my arms to call for help. Haha what an adventure! Thanks god, that finally a fisher came by and gave us a ride.
The next day we rented some bicycles and visited some waterfalls and a nice bridge. Then we went to the Wat Khone Nua Temple. It's one of the most beautiful temples here. Tourist don't come to this place because it's a bit hidden. We got this tip from our Swiss friend we met in Vietnam :-)

Die 4000 Islands sind offensichtlich 4000 grössere und kleinere Inseln im Mekong Fluss, im Süden von Laos. Sie liegen gerade an der Grenze zu Kambodscha. Wir hatten unser eigenes Bungalow mit Hängematte bei der Eingangstüre. Es war ein traumhaftes Paradies. Wie ihr auf den ersten drei Bilder sehen könnt, ist das das Dorf der Insel. Unsere Insel hiess Don Det. Es ist diejenige mit den meisten Hotels und Restaurants, und trotzdem war es wunderbar ruhig und es war nicht viel los. Bild 3 zeigt die Hauptstrasse durch das Dorf ;-)
An unserem zweiten Tag hier nahmen wir das Taxi (Roller mit selbstgemachtem Seitenwagen) und fuhren runter zur anderen Insel Don Khon, um die Delfine zu sehen. Ich war sehr aufgeregt, aber unser Fahrer Thin nicht so :-D Es war ein sehr sehr heisser Tag. Die Delfine tauchten sehr tief im kühleren Wasser und kamen nur nach oben um etwas Luft zu holen. Bild 6 zeigt was wir wirklich gesehen haben. Bild 7 ist für euch, damit ihr wisst, wie ein Mekong Delfin aussieht. Diese armen Tiere sind fast ausgestorben. Aber Laos und Kambodscha arbeiten hart daran dies zu verhindern. Ich war sooo glücklich, dass wir einige von ihnen gesehen haben! Als wir zurück wollten, ging uns der Motor vom Boot kaputt. Scheisse... Wir sind mitten auf dem Fluss, kein Motor, kein funktionierendes Handy und fast kein Trinkwasser. Nun.. Michi probierte den Motor zu reparieren, der Fahrer begann zu paddeln und ich schwang meine Arme um Hilfe zu holen. Haha was für ein Abenteuer! Zum Glück kam endlich mal ein Fischer vorbei und nahm uns mit.
Am nächsten Tag mieteten wir uns Fahrräder und besuchten einige Wasserfälle und eine schöne Brücke. Dann gingen wir zum Wat Khone Nua Tempel. Er ist der schönste Tempel hier. Touristen kommen auch keine hier her, da er etwas versteckt ist. Wir haben diesen Tip von unserem Schweizer Freund bekommen, welchen wir in Vietnam traffen :-)
