We arrived Mexico-City almost at midnight and because this is one of the most dangerous citys in the wold, we took a taxi to our hotel. We had a very pleasant night and in the next morning we started our exploring plans.
At first we visited the famous Teotihuacan Pyramids. There is the big pyramid of the sun, the pyramid of the moon, the avenue of the death and the temple of Quetzalcoatl. It's very impressive how some people builded all these things. Nobody knows who they where.. The city was established around 100 BC and lasted until sometime between the 7th and 8th centuries AD. At hight season there were about 200'000 people living there. When the Aztecs came (about 1000 years later) they only found ruins of the city. But still, this city was so magnificent for them, they called it Teotihuacan (meaning: birthplace of the gods). The pyramid of the sun has incredible eight layers, because every king build a new pyramid over the existing pyramid. For dinner we had one of the coolest sandwiches ever! It's called 'Torta' and they filled it with Schnitzel, Guacamole and Cheddar cheese. It was huge!! An absolute dream for meatlovers (sorry for all vegetarians who read our Blog. You missed something :-P) We ordered only one Torta, but it was too much for both of us. Midnightsnack! :-D
For our second day, we planned to make a city tour. At the Zocalo, the central of the city, was a very cool Aztec dance. We took the Turi-Bus and had a comfortable ride around Mexico-City and saw a lot of very interesting things. For example: Plaza Manuel Tolsa, Plaza San Fernando, Monumento a la Revolucion, Hemiciclo a Juarez etc.
After we arrived Zocalo again, we wanted to walk back to our hotel. It took us only 15 minutes. Uhh... Bad decision! I saw a Tattoo studio and wanted to ask for the prices, and this how we met Socio. He's a former Tattoo artist and lived long time in the USA, therefore he talked perfect english. He asked us, why we were at this area, because it's extremly dangerous here. Almost every day people will be robbed or infringed, no matter if they are Tourists or not and which time it is. We were so shocked!! The area doesn't look dangerous for us. There were stores, pedestrians and restaurants, so what? He walked with us two streets to the left, to a saver area where we could walk to our hotel. At least he was a gentleman and doesn't want to rob us too. At this evening, when we were at our save hotel, we heard shooting guns and police sirens outside. Scary...
On the third day we were very carfully. No wedding ring, no phone, no wallet, only a few Pesos for our daytrip. I hid the camera and my small bag under my sweater to look pregnant. Who will rob a pregnant woman? We took the metro down to Xochimilco to the floating gardens and buyed a ticket for one of the colorful boats. It's very common for mexican families and friends to rent a boat and play some music, to eat and drink. Some boats were truly partyboats! We had a lot of fun with watching the young drunk people dance at 2.00 p.m. :-D There were also a lot of small markets where they selled snacks and Pulque, the national beverage of Mexico.
We liked Mexico-City a lot! It has a lot of beautiful and historical things to see, but you have to be very very carfully. The savest way is, to take the bus, metro or taxi where ever you go. Don't walk, even the smallest distance. We had a lot of luck! But nevertheless, don't be scared. The people are very helpful and there are a lot of must sees!
Wir erreichten Mexiko-Stadt beinahe um Mitternacht und weil diese Stadt eine der gefährlichsten der Welt ist, fuhren wir mit dem Taxi zu unserem Hotel. Wir hatten eine sehr angenehme Nacht und schon am nächsten Morgen starteten wir unsere Entdeckungspläne.
Als erstes besuchten wir die berühmten Teotihuacan Pyramiden. Das ist die grosse Sonnenpyramide, die Mondpyramide, die Strasse des Todes und der Tempel von Quetzalcoatl. Es ist sehr beeindruckend wie ein Volk all diese Dinge erbaut hat. Niemand weiss wer sie waren.. Die Stadt wurde um 100 v.Chr. etabliert und hielt bis irgendwann zwischen dem 7. und 8. Jahrhundert an. Zur Hochsaison lebten um die 200'000 Menschen dort. Als die Azteken kamen (etwa 1000 Jahre später), fanden sie nur noch die Ruinen der Stadt. Aber dennoch war diese Stadt so magisch für sie, dass sie sie Teotihuacan nannten (Bedeutung: Wo man zu einem Gott wird). Die Sonnenpyramide hat unglaubliche acht Schichten, weil jeder König eine neue Pyramide über die bestehende erbauen liess. Zum Abendessen hatten wir das aller coolste Sandwich der Welt! Sie nennen es 'Torta' und füllten es mit Schnitzel, Guacamole und Cheddar Käse. Es war riesig!! Ein absoluter Traum für alle Fleischliebhaber (Sorry für alle Vegetarier die unseren Blog lesen. Ihr habt etwas verpasst :-P) Wir bestellten nur eine Torta, aber es war für uns beide zuviel. Mitternachtssnack! :-D
Für unseren zweiten Tag planten wir eine Stadtrundfahrt. Auf dem Zocalo, dem Zentrum der Stadt, gab es einen sehr coolen Azteken Tanz. Wir nahmen den Turi-Bus und hatten eine sehr gemütliche Fahrt rund um Mexiko-Stadt und sahen viele interessante Sachen. Zum Beispiel: Plaza Manuel Tolsa, Plaza San Fernando, Monumento a la Revolucion, Hemiciclo a Juarez etc.
Nachdem wir nach Zocalo zurückkehrten, wollten wir zu Fuss zu unserem Hotel gehen. Dafür brauchten wir nur 15 Minuten. Uhh... Schlechte Entscheidung! Ich sah ein Tattoostudio und wollte nach den Preisen fragen, so lernten wir Socio kennen. Er ist ein ehemaliger Tattoowierer und lebte lange Zeit in den USA, darum konnte er perfekt Englisch sprechen. Er fragte uns, warum wir in diesem Quartier seien, weil es hier extrem gefährlich sei. Fast täglich werden hier Menschen ausgeraubt oder verletzt, egal ob sie Touristen sind oder nicht und welche Uhrzeit es ist. Wir waren so schockiert!! Das Quartier sah nicht gerade gefährlich aus für uns. Da gab es Läden, Fussgänger und Restaurants, also was soll's? Er begleitete uns zwei Strassen weiter nach links zu einem sichereren Quartier wo wir zu unserem Hotel laufen konnten. Immerhin war er so anständig und wollte uns nicht auch noch ausrauben. An diesem Abend, als wir in unserem sicheren Hotel waren, hörten wir draussen Pistolenschüsse und Polizeisirenen. Unheimlich...
Am dritten Tag waren wir sehr vorsichtig. Kein Ehering, kein Handy, kein Portemonnaie, nur einige Pesos für unseren Tagesausflug. Ich versteckte die Kamera und meine kleine Tasche unter meinem Pullover um Schwanger auszusehen. Wer wird schon eine schwangere Frau ausrauben? Wir nahmen die Metro runter nach Xochimilco zu den schwimmenden Gärten und kauften uns ein Ticket für eines der bunten Boote. Es ist hier üblich für mexikanische Familien und Freunde eines der Boote zu mieten und Musik zu spielen, zu essen und zu trinken. Einige Boote waren richtige Partyboote! Wir hatten sehr viel Spass den jungen besoffenen Leuten beim Tanzen zu zusehen, und das um 14:00 Uhr Nachmittags :-D Es gab auch viele kleine Märkte, wo Snacks und Pulque, das mexikanische Nationalgetränk, verkauft wurden.
Wir mochten Mexiko-Stadt sehr! Es gibt sehr viele schöne und historische Dinge zu sehen, aber man muss sehr sehr vorsichtig sein. Egal wohin man geht, der sicherste Weg ist mit dem Bus, Metro oder Taxi. Geht nicht zu Fuss, auch nicht die kleinste Distanz. Wir hatten da sehr viel Glück! Aber nichts desto trotz, habt keine Angst. Die Menschen sind sehr hilfsbereit und es gibt sehr viel, dass man gesehen haben muss!
