We wanted to travel through
Argentina, because we didn’t want to stay a whole week at Asuncion, Paraguay. There
was a Bus from Villamontes, Bolivia to Asuncion, rushing through Paraguay. We
saw, that the northern part of Paraguay is desert like landscape and that there
are not many villages with Hotels. Therefore, we took the Argentina route. Many
Backpackers are going this way to Paraguay.
The border crossing at Yacuiba was
very easy. For the first time at a south American border, our luggage was
scanned. There was a nice officer at the Argentinian migration who was talking
with us about Switzerland, our jobs and our travel. He was amazed by all our
adventures and how beautiful Switzerland is. In this conversation we also
noticed, that the Spanish is a bit different to the other Spanish speaking
countries we have visited. After we passed the border, we walked to the bus
terminal to get a bus to Salta or Formosa. An old lady at a counter was telling
us weird stuff about how we get to each destination. Another guy at the
terminal told us that she’s a bit crazy. 😊
Anyway… We figured out, that it’s cheaper if we travel directly to Formosa, a
City at Argentina next to Asuncion. The thing is, we had to go by a small bus
to a highway cross and wait there for our next bus, which is coming from the
other direction. It took the crazy lady about 20 minutes to explain that to us
in her Argentinian accent. We only got it, because I told her, she should draw
it in pictures for us :-D Then we came to the next problem. The ticket was very
expensive, and the only bank at this small village didn’t accept our VISA Card.
We just had the money we got, from changing Bolivianos into Argentinian Pesos.
That means, we had only 230 Pesos (12 $) We could pay the big ticket from the
highway cross to Formosa by credit card, but the small ticket to the cross we
had to pay by cash. It costed 200 Peso for two Tickets. We had 30 Pesos left,
and we didn’t eat anything until then. It was already midday. At one of the
street controls by the Police we could get out of the bus and buy one Burger
for 25 Pesos. 5 Pesos left and still very hungry. At the road cross we had to
wait for 4 hours for our next bus. Our stomachs were grumbling… At least we had
one big bottle of water with us. Then finally the big sleeper bus arrived and
we could board. We were so tired, we fell asleep immediately.
At 5 a.m. we arrived Formosa. The bus terminal was empty
and no store was open. We were starving… Luckily there was an ATM at the corner
and we could at least get some money! We checked the price a nearby Hotel to
sleep and rest but the price was out of this world. It was a dirty rathole (but
hey, at least something) and the owner wanted 30 $ for one night.
Really???? We turned around and sat on a
bench to wait until the stores and ticket counter will open. We must go to Paraguay
now. No more Argentina for us. At 8 o’clock we could finally buy some
Argentinian cheese bread and tickets to Asuncion.
After one hour of driving we
arrived the Paraguayan border. In the past two days we were waiting and waiting
and waiting. There was not much of a different here. 😉
After standing in line to get our stamps we had to wait again for our bus. They
were checking every single detain on it. I’m so glad we are now at Paraguay.
What an odyssey of a travel :-D In the end, it was even more expensive than the
bus from Bolivia to Paraguay. Except that we now got some Argentinian stamps in
our Passport.

Wir wollten durch Argentinien reisen, da wir nicht
eine ganze Woche in Asuncion Paraguay bleiben wollten. Es gab einen Bus von Villamontes in Bolivien,
welcher durch ganz Paraguay nach Asuncion raste. Wir sahen, dass der nördliche
Teil Paraguays nur aus Wüstenähnlicher Landschaft besteht und dass es nicht
viele Dörfer mit Hotels gibt. Darum nahmen wir die Argentinien Route. Viele
Backpacker nehmen diesen Weg nach Paraguay.
Die Grenzüberquerung bei Yacuiba war sehr einfach. Zum
ersten Mal bei einer Südamerikanischen Grenze wurde unser Gepäck gescannt. Ein
netter Beamte der Argentinischen Migration unterhielt sich mit uns über die
Schweiz, unsere Berufe und unsere Reise. Er war erstaunt über all unsere
Abenteuer und wie schön die Schweiz ist. In dieser Konversation merkten wir
auch, dass das Spanisch etwas anders ist als in den anderen Spanisch
sprechenden Ländern, die wir besucht haben. Nachdem wir die Grenze passierten,
liefen wir zum Busterminal um einen Bus nach Salta oder Formosa zu nehmen. Eine
alte Frau an einem Schalter erklärte uns komisches Zeug darüber, wie wir zu den
jeweiligen Destinationen kommen.
Ein anderer Typ beim Terminal erzählte uns, dass sie
ein wenig verrückt sei 😊 Wie auch immer… Wir fanden heraus, dass es günstiger
ist direkt nach Formosa, eine Stadt in Argentinien neben Asuncion, zu reisen.
Das Problem ist halt, dass wir mit einem kleinen Bus zu einem Autobahnkreuz
fahren und dort auf unseren nächsten Bus warten mussten, welcher von der
anderen Richtung kommt. Die verrückte Dame brauchte satte 20 Minuten um uns das
mit ihrem Argentinischen Akzent zu erklären. Wir haben es auch nur begriffen,
weil ich ihr sagte, sie soll es uns doch bitte in Bildern malen :-D Dann kamen
wir zum nächsten Problem. Das Ticket war sehr teuer und die einzige Bank in
diesem kleinen Dorf akzeptierte unsere VISA Karte nicht. Wir hatten nur das
Bargeld, welches wir vom Wechsel von Bolivianos zu Argentinischen Pesos hatten.
Das heisst, wir hatten nur 230 Pesos (Fr. 12.-) Wir konnten das grosse Ticket
von der Autobahnkreuzung nach Formosa mit der Kreditkarte bezahlen, aber das
kleine Ticket zur Kreuzung mussten wir Bar bezahlen. Es kostete 200 Pesos für
zwei Tickets. Wir hatten somit noch 30 Pesos übrig und wir hatten bis dahin
noch nichts gegessen. Es war bereits Mittag. Bei einer der Strassenkontrollen
der Polizei konnten wir aussteigen und einen Hamburger für 25 Pesos kaufen. 5
Pesos übrig und immer noch sehr hungrig. Beim Strassenkreuz mussten wir 4
Stunden auf den nächsten Bus warten. Unsere Mägen knurrten… Immerhin hatten wir
eine grosse Flasche Wasser dabei. Dann kam endlich der grosse Nachtbus und wir
konnten einsteigen. Wir waren so müde, dass wir sofort eingeschlafen sind.
Um 5:00 Uhr morgens erreichten wir Formosa. Das
Busterminal war leer und kein Laden war geöffnet. Wir sind am verhungern…
Glücklicherweise gab es einen Bankomat an der Ecke und wir kamen immerhin zu
etwas Geld! Wir fragten nach dem Preis bei einem nahegelegenen Hotel aber der
war nicht von dieser Welt. Es war ein dreckiges Rattenloch (aber hey, immerhin
etwas) und der Besitzer wollte Fr. 30.- für eine Nacht. Echt jetzt???? Wir
machten auf dem Absatz kehrt und setzten uns auf eine Bank um zu warten bis die
Läden und Ticketschalter öffnen werden. Wir müssen jetzt nach Paraguay gehen.
Fertig mit Argentinien. Um 8:00 Uhr konnten wir endlich einige argentinische
Käsebrotringe und Tickets nach Asuncion kaufen.
Nach einer Stunde Fahrtzeit erreichten wir die
Paraguayische Grenze. In den letzten beiden Tagen waren wir nur am Warten,
Warten und Warten. Und hier war es nicht gerade anders. 😉 Nachdem wir in
der Schlange standen um unseren Stempel zu bekommen mussten wir noch auf
unseren Bus warten. Jedes einzelne Detail wurde überprüft. Ich bin so froh,
dass wir nun in Paraguay sind. Was für eine Odyssee! :-D Schlussendlich
bezahlten wir mehr als der Bus der direkt von Bolivien nach Paraguay ging. Nur dass
wir nun noch Argentinische Stempel in unserem Reisepass haben.
